Medical Training in Belgium - September 2008

Good news to all senior medical students and newly graduate medical doctors in Cambodia!

"Creating the first reference center for gastro-intestinal cancer in Cambodia" is a cooperation project between Cambodian and Belgian government and operates under the framework of VLIR project of Belgian government.

As a member of the project, I would be pleased to announce that we need to select one Cambodian senior medical student or newly graduate medical doctor to join our team.

The selected applicant must have strong internal motivation and long-term vision in health sector in Cambodia. After the first selection, he or she is granted a one month internship (September 2008) in UZ Gent hospital in Belgium. The internship will be in Gastro-enterology department if the selected candidate is a newly graduated doctor. However, if he or she is a senior medical student, the internship is in the same subject he or she is undergoing in Cambodian hospital.

His or her performance in Belgium during the above-mentioned internship will determine whether or not he or she will be finally selected to join the project team. If he or she is finally selected, he or she is granted another two-year scholarship in Belgium in order to become a specialist in Grasto-enterology. Upon successful completion of the two-year training in Belgium, he or she is to join the project team as Gastro-enterologist.

Eligibility:

- Senior medical student or graduate medical doctor (preferrably newly graduate)
- Have strong internal motivation towards and long-term vision in Cambodian health sector
- English and French proficiency

9th International Women in Asia (WIA) Conference: Transition and Interchange

School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies, University of Queensland, 29 Sept – 1 Oct 2008 calls for nominations for --> Women in Asia: Emerging Researchers Showcase

Nominations are sought from outstanding early career researchers to attend the Ninth International Women in Asia (WIA) Conference as keynote speakers. We are seeking scholars who are emerging leaders in their fields, undertaking innovative, exciting research on cultural issues. The successful applicants will present their research in one of the conference plenary sessions, receive a substantial contribution towards their travel and accommodation costs, and be given keynote billing for the conference.

The Emerging Researchers Showcase is supported by funding from the ARC Asia Pacific Futures Research Network (http://www.sueztosuva.org.au/ ) . In 2008, the APFRN signature theme is 'Crossing Borders of Cultural Meaning in the Asia Pacific (culture and religion)' and we therefore specifically invite nominations for the Emerging Researchers Showcase in the fields of religion and culture.

Applicants should submit a CV and a statement of no more than two pages in length including a 250 word abstract of their proposed presentation, and explaining their reasons for wishing to participate, how they will benefit from participation, why they should be selected, and the names and email addresses of two referees who would be willing to provide a reference by email.

Applicants must have received their Ph D by April 1st, 2008, and no earlier than April 1st, 2003.

ADB - Japan Scholarship

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries. The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the Region. The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

Master in Public Administration Scholarships at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) and at the National University of Singapore (NUS)

The 1-year Master in Public Administration (MPA) programme provides an intensive, interdisciplinary course of study for experienced professionals who wish to acquire new knowledge and skills to enhance their leadership and managerial capabilities. This innovative programme can be taken full-time or part-time.

The scholarships below are offered on a competitive basis. Applicants must have good academic and professional records. They must also have demonstrated leadership and a desire to contribute to public service. Not all the awards will be made unless thereare candidates of sufficient merit. Scholars may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship or award without the prior approval of the School. There is no bond or obligation for the scholar to be employed by NUS or in Singapore, except for the Lien Foundation scholarship.

Attention! The following items are covered by the terms of the relevant scholarships:

The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Graduate Scholarship is available to full-time students who have demonstrated leadership and a desire to contribute to public service. A.I.T Scholarship

The ASEAN Foundation (AF) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have entered into another agreement to develop high quality human resources within ASEAN member countries through the offering of the AF-AIT Scholarships. This scholarship programme is part of the ASEAN Foundation Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies and funded through the Japan-ASEAN Solidarity Fund. AIT is based in Thailand and has affiliated centers in other parts of the world. Ten (10) full scholarships are available for ASEAN nationals who wish to pursue masters degree in AIT. The scholarship award will cover tuition and other academic fees, and living allowances for a 2-year program.

Four scholarships will be awarded under the project “Capacity building for Gender, Poverty and Mobility Analysis of Road Transportation Development in GMS Region”. The remaining six scholarships will be allocated for the various fields of study identified by ASEAN Foundation as indicated below.

To qualify, applicants must:

- Be a bonafide ASEAN national;
- Hold a bachelors degree (normally from a four-year program) or its equivalent in an appropriate field;
- Have above average undergraduate grades (minimum CGPA of 2.75); and,
- Satisfy other requirements as specified by the school you apply to.
- AIT is an international institute with English as the sole language of instruction. Admission to AIT requires proof of English language proficiency which may be satisfied in any of the following: Submission of an official test score from any of the following standardized English exams: TOEFL, IELTS, CU-TEP ( Thailand ), ARC (Lao PDR).
- Agree to return and/or serve for at least 2 years in any ASEAN countries after completion of their studies.

The Fujitsu Asia Pacific Scholarship (Fujitsu Scholarship) Program, sponsored by Fujitsu Limited, provides financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training to participants from the Asia-Pacific region. Fujitsu Limited, an international leader in information technology, telecommunications, semiconductors and electronics that is headquartered in Tokyo, established the Fujitsu Scholarship to commemorate its 50th anniversary in 1985. The Fujitsu Scholarship program is available for academic programs at JAIMS. JAIMS, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a nonprofit postgraduate institute established by Fujitsu in 1972. Many Fujitsu Scholarship recipients/graduates are now working for corporate and social-service organizations in their home countries as well as in other nations.

The Fujitsu Scholarship is available to citizens of selected Asia-Pacific countries in the following formats:

Carnegie Mellon University - AusAID Scholarships Carnegie Mellon University

AusAID Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government to support a limited number of students from countries where Australia has a bilateral aid program, to study at the university's Heinz School in Adelaide, Australia. These scholarships are available to full time students.

Scholarship benefits include full tuition, return economy airfares, a contribution to living expenses, and basic medical insurance. Applicants must satisfy both AusAID's general eligibility criteria and the specific criteria established for their country of citizenship. A detailed listing of eligible countries, criteria (general eligibility and country specific), and scholarship benefits can be found by visiting the AusAID website.

Applications for the January 2009 intake are now being accepted (the closing date for AusAid applications is the 30/06/08.) Carnegie Mellon University -AusAID Scholarships are only available to students who have already been offered a place at Carnegie Mellon University.

South Australian Government Scholarships

Scholarships covering a significant portion of tuition are available. To be considered for a scholarship, applicants will meet Carnegie Mellon’s admission requirements. Australian students are also eligible for a FEE-HELP tuition loan, which can be used to meet the residual cost of tuition not covered by scholarship.
